US: Initial Jobless Claims fell to 236K last week

WASHINGTON (June 26) US citizens filing new applications for unemployment insurance dropped to 236K for the week ending June 21, as reported by the US Department of Labor (DOL) on Thursday. This print came in below initial estimates and the previous week's revised tally of 246K (revised from 245K).

The report also highlighted a seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate of 1.3%, while the four-week moving average dropped by 750 to 245K from the prior week’s revised average.

Moreover, Continuing Jobless Claims increased by 37K to reach 1.974M for the week ending June 14.

Market reaction

The Greenback remains on the back foot, adding to the ongoing leg lower and prompting the US Dollar Index (DXY) to challenge the 97.00 support for the first time since March 2022.
