The Fed will never succeed in its attempt to manage inflation and unemployment by varying interest rates, because it and its economists do not accept the relationship between, on one side, the money it creates and the bank credit its commercial banks issue out of...

In my video below, I explain how and why I think the gold bear market is artificial, and due to manipulation by a few big banks in the paper market. I discuss the market reaction that will confirm I’m correct.

For the last five months, the miners have basically oscillated within the same general region, while the metals have made lower lows. But none of the charts seem to have completed their respective downside structures.

Stagnationists have been around for centuries. They have embraced many economic theories about what causes economic stagnation. That’s a situation in which total output, or output per capita, is constant, falling slightly, or rising sluggishly. Stagnation can also...

As the Federal Reserve continues to prop up the highly leveraged debt based financial industry, the flow of US gold heading East picked up significantly. According to the USGS most recently released survey, Hong Kong received 56% of total U.S. gold bullion exports...

Last week, the Bank of Japan (BoJ) kept the pace of its money market operations unchanged, but it reorganized the stimulus program. What does it imply for the US dollar and the gold?

I was just going over some old charts and came across this one, which is a ratio chart that compares the HUI to gold going all the way back to the bear market low that was made back in 2000. I use to show this chart quite a bit when the blue triangle on the right...

Even though many signs have been pointing to lower precious metals prices, we just saw a daily upswing. Were the bearish signs just invalidated and is the final bottom for this major decline already behind us?

While routinely following the precious metals as one of many sectors in NFTRH, we have mostly left it alone with respect to public writing over the last few years. That is because it is in a bear market and since I am not a slick short-term trader, I have felt it...

Gold was flat in the overnight session, but the wave patterns on the Intraday Chart suggest still higher prices in this up leg. Our next targets are 1085.00 and 1088.20. We are working on the assumption that all of wave .a. of –v- ended at 1046.40 and we are now...

Much the same way many experts felt that the NYSE was issuing a series of death signals, there are just as many who share the same sentiment towards the signals the Global BBC 30 Index is supposedly issuing.

The year of 2016 looks very good for gold and related assets for a veritable myriad of reasons. First, while gold bullion recently traded below its summer low, about 75% of GDX component stocks are trading higher. That’s a classic technical bullish non-confirmation...

Russia continues to add to its gold reserves and added another 700,000 ounces in November or another 22 metric tonnes, and analysts believe this buying will continue and may intensify in the coming months.

As we prepare to bid adieu to yet another year and begin the year 2016, I wanted to share some thoughts about which I have been pondering.

The ruling conservative Popular Party won Spain’s general election, but is short of majority. What does the new political reality in Spain mean for the gold market?

It seems that bullish gold investors may be able to breathe a little easier after the Fed finally made its decision to raise rates 25 basis points earlier this week. Bob Haberkorn, a senior market strategist at RJO Futures in Chicago, commented that sentiment has...

For more than three decades, China has enjoyed an average annual growth rate close to 11%, which has presently been on a decline in the past five years. The industrial boom which has been part of China’s most recent history, re their prosperity and unprecedented...

After more than four years of falling gold prices even the most ardent goldbug is beginning to scratch his head and have moments of disbelief. Why did gold fall around 10 per cent to date in 2015, the US dollar rise by about the same amount, and US stocks go...

Good friend Michael Pollaro just sent a couple of charts that show the US economy heading for a brick wall. The first illustrates what happens when business sales (the green line) turn negative. In the previous two boom/bust cycles, when sales started falling the...

Gold's technical picture is actually little changed from the last update posted on the 6th, apart from its having made marginal new lows late last week. What has changed is that we have since seen the Fed raise interest rates for the first time in many years, and...

Marking time. That was the theme last week and little has changed. Precious metals remain under severe and sustained pressure – and keep bouncing back, just to get clobbered again and again. However, the flames keep flickering, with promise of the phoenix arising...

I just need to start off saying that due to the Holidays, this update will not include charts. Happy Holidays to everyone!

The recent US economic data is worrisome, especially concerning the manufacturing sector. What does it imply for the gold market?

“At this point, the possibility that the bull market is over is just that: a possibility! But the market should not keep us guessing too long about whether or not this becomes a fact. Many credible economic and geopolitical arguments can be made for it, but we’ll...

On Wednesday, the US Federal Reserve Board unanimously voted to raise interest rates for its overnight lending facility by 0.25%. This puts the target range set by the Central Bank to between 0.25 - 0.50%, with some leeway for rates to fluctuate within this zone.

Markets were choppy waiting for the expected Fed rate rise Wednesday, which came and went and now we’re choppy again but looking as if we may move lower.

Gold speculator and large futures traders reduced their gold bullish positions last week and have now decreased gold bets six out of the last seven weeks, according to the latest Commitment of Traders (COT) data released by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (...

Whilst preparing to "leave the building" as is our wont on FedDays, several hours prior to Wednesday's dastardly deed performed by the FOMC, I enjoyed a brief exchange of emails with a valued colleague up in Montréal, who bemoaned the notion of having to remain put...

Stocks got crushed Friday, December 18th, the Industrials plunging 367 points after losing 253 points the day before. That’s a loss of 620 points in two days for those of you keeping score at home. The S&P500 got torched for 67 points the past two days, the...

Normally it's not a good idea to write about the same subject twice in a row because not much can be added and reader boredom sets in. What happened last Wednesday deserves another look because I believe it marked a huge pivot point and very few are even talking...
